Aetna oddities

Posted on Posted in Health Insurance, News and Politics

News is emerging that Aetna attempted to strong-arm the U.S. Justice Department last month before pulling out of the individual health insurance exchanges. That doesn’t seem like a smart strategy under any circumstance and of course it did not work.

I recall sitting in an Aetna corporate strategy presentation in the late 1980s and recognizing even back then that top management had some odd perceptions about the company’s role on the national health care stage. (Yes, we were talking about comprehensive health care reform and the single provider model even back then). This recent event seems like more of the same thinking.

For those in Pennsylvania and other states with individual Aetna policies, it makes sense to start early on exploring the options for 2017. I am available to discuss options if you find yourself losing coverage because Aetna, U.S. Healthcare or Humana are not renewing your coverage.
