Philadelphia CPA launches low cost online tax service
Tony Novak, a Certified Public Accountant located just outside Philadelphia, announces the launch of his new online tax practice focused on providing low cost e-filing services to individuals and businesses. Novak's vision is to provide the personal professional service of CPA-prepared returns at a price of mass market tax services.
CPA tax practitioners are not usually known for being low cost leaders but this tax practice intends to be different. Novak has launched web-based financial services enterprises in the past that focused on lowering user costs. In 1985 he founded MedSave, a first generation health insurance exchange, and later Freedom Benefits, a small business benefit plan provider. Both used disruptive technologies to expand access and lower costs for users. Now Novak plans to focus his tax service on individuals and businesses that have been affected by increased tax service fees by lowering the cost of both CPA prepared tax returns and self-prepared online tax filing.
The tax preparation industry faces increases cost pressure this year with the responsibility of reporting compliance with the Affordable Care Act. Novak's service may buck the trend by expanding the use of simple technologies to save time and increase efficiency of tax filing process. Novak points out that all of these technologies are already in common use but not fully integrated into most tax preparer services. He expects the total fee for most typical e-filed returns to range from $40 for self-filing to under $200 for CPA prepared and notes that this price is lower than the largest national tax preparer firms.
