Propaganda today

“The point of modern propaganda isn’t only to misinform or push an agenda. It is to exhaust your critical thinking, to annihilate truth.” – Russian dissident and chess grand-master Garry Kasparov

“Make America Great Again” belies the overwhelming data that suggests growing old gracefully is our nation’s best option.

“America First” is equally unsupported by positive evidence. Data suggests a global view leads to the best economic and least violent outcome for us.

Yet despite all the widespread support among people who actually bother to consider data, too many without real knowledge have fallen for the self-serving propaganda promoted by the few. Then, to cement the ignorance in place, propaganda promoters attack those with real data as “elitist”. We now see almost 4 in 10 Americans willing to cite propaganda as evidence as dismiss the consensus if peer reviewed sources as unreliable. I think this is partly because too many – perhaps 4 in 10 Americans don’t know or don’t care about the basics of either the scientific process or public rule-making process.
