Acceptable Public Behavior Policy

PURPOSE: The purpose of this policy is to protect our reputation, brand value and ensure social justice within our communities. The public and online behavior of clients, friends, contacts, employees, contractors and associates reflects on me and the reputation of this firm. This policy is intended to be respectful of the right to free expression while being clear about the consequences of specific unacceptable behaviors. It is not intended to address behavior and communications directly with me and staff members that would likely be held to a higher standard.

GENERAL POLICY: I expect that all members of our communities will show respect to all people equally without regard to race, sex, religion, orientation, citizenship or immigration status. We reject all forms of hate, fascism, bigotry, racism and potentially harmful misinformation. We will take action to distance ourselves when these objectionable behaviors are observed.

YOUR RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION: We recognize and affirm your rights to freely express an independent opinion. We welcome and value a diversity of opinions. I personally welcome constructive criticism and personal challenge. However, this right does not ensure your continued employment, support, membership or association with me or this firm or others similarly governed.

UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR DEFINED: Unacceptable behavior is bigotry expressed in any form, including defending, supporting or endorsing nationalism, racism, trumpism, ‘MAGA’, or promoting related themes or propaganda or intimidation. Unacceptable behavior also includes the intentional spread of propaganda, conspiracy theories, or false information intended to have a divisive impact including but not limited to concepts known as anti-science, deep state, flat earth, QAnon and similar themes.

SCOPE: in addition to direct exposure and communications, this policy also extends to businesses, clubs and organizations where I have board level or management responsibilities or stewardship of assets.

ADVANCE WARNING: In most cases I do not engage in any prior communication or give advance warning before taking corrective action to observed unacceptable behavior.

CONSEQUENCE: Violation of this public behavior policy may result in our early termination from engagement, loss of membership renewal privilege, loss of invitation, or other social distancing.

CLIENTS: If I find a client to be publicly engaged in unacceptable behavior as defined above then we may end our services under the “Early Termination” provisions contained in our work agreement.

NON-CLIENTS: If non-clients, employees, associates, members, online connections, social media friends, employees, contractors or guests are observed engaging in unacceptable behavior, as defined above, then we may simply end the connection, contact, membership, employment or other relationship without further notice.

RECOURSE AND APPEAL: Determination of unacceptable behavior is subjective and rests exclusively with us. There is no established basis of appeal.

RESTORATION: Restoration is available after a period of time, also at our discretion, of typically three months.
