Q: I live in Georgia and need health insurance when my COBRA runs out next month. I am 35, 5’6” 255 lbs. I take synthroid for hypothyroidism and glucofage for insulin resistance but I do not have any sort of diabetes. I have elevated cholesterol and am taking a statin drug on a trial basis. Can you let me know which policies will cover me, I’ll pay for my Rx, not a problem. I’m more concerned with having full comprehensive coverage.
A: The most likely choice is Secure STM. See http://FreedomBenefits.net/articles/Review-of-Secure-STM.htm (for short periods of coverage up to 6 months) or the similar "Secure STM 12x3" plan (Secure STM 12x3 compare/quote/apply online) for up to 36 months of guaranteed continuous coverage. The coverage options available and the prices of those options will be directly available on the pricing/enrollment page. These policies will screen for weight or your specific medical history. Just be sure that you apply for this immediate-issue insurance first, before applying for any other health insurance. If you are declined by another insurance company, then the Secure STM plan is no longer available and you will be eligible for only the state assigned risk plan at a higher price and lower level of benefits.
