Q: Just a note to tell you that your it's not age 65 that precludes funding to an HSA, it's enrollment in Medicare. Not all 65+ in this country are eligible for Medicare and there are many much younger who are due to disability.
A: Yes. Last year the Treasury Department further clarified that it is actually Medicare eligibility and not Medicare enrollment that determined eligibility, in the rare event that these were not the same. IRS publications continue to state "Medicare enrollment" as the non-qualifying criteria. This issue and a number of others were recently updated at www.healthsavingsaccount-hsa.com. There is new information on costs of HSA accounts and the net savings reported by HSA account users nationally. The FAQ section on this site may be the most extensive and up-to-date resource for health savings accounts.
