ValueHealth insurance in New York

Q: I am looking at ValueHealth
insurance for my daughter in New York. It seems to be less expensive
than other options but does not indicate that doctor visit coverage is
included.
A: Yes, that is correct. This
insurance may be the best value in New York state but the savings does
come with reduced benefits. This is primarily a cash based hospital and
emergency care insurance. There is no insurance coverage for doctor's
office visits or regular prescription drugs. But the price is only a
small fraction of the cost of regular full coverage plans in New York.
For these uncovered items, we recommend combining the insurance with a
PPO discount plan like those at www.ehealthdiscountplan.com to minimize
the effects of the holes in coverage.
