Q: I filed my tax return
electronically and received a confirmation that says "acknowledgement
code E". What does this mean?
A: The "E" stands for
"exception". The return was accepted as filed, but with an error. This
means that a refund will not be processed until the error is corrected.
The IRS will let you know by mail what they believe is the error. It
could be an incorrect social security number for a dependent. (This is
the most common error in electronically filed tax returns).
