More on health insurance without a social security number

Despite the convincing documentation that the federal government has produced – these sources that I cite over and over in my publications –  a woman tonight insisted that health insurance companies require a social security number to enroll.

Of course I can’t speak for every insurance company under every circumstance. But I can say that any insurance company listed on the federal health insurance exchange or my website FreedomBenefits.net will issue coverage without a social security number.

Note that this post does not address the issue of qualifying for a federal tax credit to reduce the insurance premium. That is a separate topic with its own set of rules that are different from the issue of eligibility for insurance.

I finally wrote her “try it, you will see” and left it at that. Sticking to a belief that you can’t get health insurance will prove to be a self-fulfilling prophecy but it is not grounded in fact.
