Some people are still waiting for their $1,200 economic impact payment from the federal government. IRS confirms that a data entry error in 2019 TurboTax may be to blame. Forbes’ Rob Berger as been following the issue in a series of posts. Intuit, the makers of the software issued a statement “We are working closely with IRS to understand why and how this would have impacted a taxpayer’s eligibility to receive an economic impact payment (EIP). We expect more information will be available in the near future.”
Over the years a significant portion of my work as a tax problem solver stems from fixing errors in TurboTax returns so the news is not surprising. I offered corrective services without charge this year as a small public contribution to assist in this pandemic but the few people I know who did not receive a check are content to do without it.
