Note added January 7, 2017: The first set of photos were taken at Baypoint Marina. Baypoint was purchased by the state and demolished in 2015; another victim of sea level rise.
Sunday November 9 my project partner Ron invited me to the afternoon weigh-in at the local striper tournament. Ron and his son Matt had been one of about 150 boats in the tournament but they did not catch any fish. I did my best to fit in socially at the marina, but I was struggling out of my element. The comment I heard most often was “there are some big fish out there”. The meal in the boat shed was good but fast, and we headed back to the island.
The next day I had a craving to eat some striper. I visited the local fish monger and bought a small 2 pound striped bass farm-raised in North Carolina. Stuffed with whole wheat croutons, tomato (still from the garden), celery, chopped olives, capers and drenched in olive oil then wrapped and baked until the cabin smelled great. Do I have a future in the cookbook publishing business?
