Sustained high winds caused more shoreline erosion and property damage than any other force of nature over the past two years. Wind persisting for days is clearly more of a problem here lately than just storms or flooding. That was my repeated observation and often triggered my comments here on social media. Yet I have not  noticed any weather person or climatologist mention this trend.

Of course, wind has always had a big impact on shore life. But I take more precautions now that were not necessary years ago. Every project or activity I plan now considers the impact of wind. It might sound odd to a person who hasn’t lived it, but persistent wind triggers a psychological reaction in the people who live at the bayshore. Locals talk about this in out private conversations, but I’ve never noticed discussion elsewhere.

Today’s wind forecast is notable for both the high wind speed and the duration of wind. This is the kind of wind that knocks you off balance and can knock you over if you are carrying something large. It may not calm down until Wednesday afternoon.
