Chase Bank is not affiliated with Freedom Benefits

I am responding to a telephone caller who presumed that my trademarked business name Freedom Benefits was associated with a credit card program apparently offered by Chase Bank. Over the years I’ve received a number of calls from consumers and even one from the FBI years ago investigating consumer reports of someone using the name in an unauthorized manner.

Then, as now, Freedom Benefits is not associated with Chase or any program that purports to be related to credit card services.

I don’t have an opinion as to whether Chase’s use of the term “freedombenefits” in naming a web page is a violation of the trademark. It seems to be a close call and Chase isn’t the first to attempt to use the trademark for some unlicensed purpose.
