On this special day of Josh’s confirmation at Main Line Reform Temple, the theme of the service was memories and remembering. Many of the speeches by the 33 confirmants eloquently expanded on this theme about deceased relatives. The following passage from the prayer book left a strong message. We remember the ones we have loved […]
When it comes my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep like grandpa, not kicking and screaming like grandma on the back of his bike.
After reviewing the results of my lab tests, the doctor said I was doing ‘fairly well’ for my age. Concerned about that comment, I asked him, "Do you think I’ll live to be 80?" "Do you drink alcohol?" "Oh no," I replied. ‘I’m not doing drugs, either!" Then he asked, "Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued […]
Last night I enjoyed a plate of barbecued oysters; barbecues with salsa; the first for 2009. Early indications are that it will be a strong season at Money Island for oysters, striper and weakfish. Crabbing season picks up soon so we will have a better indication by the end of May.

His eyes are closed, and in his shuttered world there is order, logic, sanity, […]
Four passages in "The Soloist" had an impact on me with regard to writing as a profession. The discussion of Lopez’s journalism career concerns resonated through the book, but I suspect that most readers would not pick this out as a significant theme. I am sensitized to the issues and was very much aware of the ongoing references to the author’s wrestling with concerns […]
Vermont’s legislature voted 2:1 to approve same sex marrages. Meanwhile, proposals in other states continue to push bans on the same. We already know which direction the courts will favor. Anyway it just occured to me that I would be in support of a ban for all marriages. From my own life expereince there is enetered into […]
After squirrels ate all of my flower bulbs for the past two years, I made these wire screens from wire lath mesh sold at building supply stores. Each piece of mesh was cut to fit each planter. After it was in place I covered it with a thin layer of soil. It worked! .
